Privacy Policy and Data Protection
At The Learn + Live Letter, we greatly value your privacy. The following information explains data that is stored and retained on this site and why we do it.
Who are we?
The Learn + Live Letter is a website and subscription homeschool program created in 2020 by Justine LoMonaco and Cynthia Holt, based in the United States. We provide subscription-based homeschool unit studies for children ages 3-11, along with empowerment and education for grownups conducting the homeschool.
What personal data we collect and why we collect it
Information is collected via log files, cookies, leaving comments on the site, and purchasing subscriptions.
This website collects information on your name, email address, website (if you leave this in a comment); name, email, and child’s age/children’s ages (if you subscribe); as well as IP address and the pages that you visited and when you visited them on the site.
All financial details are collected via Stripe, which does not retain any financial information once the transaction has been processed. You can view Stripe’s privacy policy here.
Like most websites, we use Google Analytics (GA) to process information about the number of visitors on our site and their behavior.
We use this information to record the number of people using our content and to better understand where you discover our site (from social media, google or another site), how you use it, and to see how people move throughout the site. This also helps guide the type of content we continue to produce.
GA records your approximate location down to town level and the type of device you are using. None of this data can be used to identify you.
Google does record your IP address, however, we don’t have access to this information and it modifies it so that you cannot be identified specifically, just the area that you are in.
Comments
When visitors leave comments on the site, we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.
An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.
Cookies
If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.
If you have an account and you log in to this site, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.
When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.
Content from other websites
If you subscribe and access our gated lesson plans, you may also be directed to other websites for activity instructions.
These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction when accessing that content, including tracing your interaction if you have an account and are logged in to that website.
Analytics
We want to to ensure that our website contains content that is valuable and useful to our readers. To help with this, we use Google analytics demographics and interest reporting features. These tools allow us to review anonymous data regarding the gender, age and interests of website visitors and adapt my website content to better reflect my readers’ needs. Although this information is collected through your Google ad settings, it is not provided to us in a personally-identifiable format.
You can opt-out of Google Analytics for Display Advertising and customize Google Display Network ads using the Google Ad settings or through the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.
How long we retain your data
If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.
For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time. Website administrators can also see and edit that information.
What rights you have over your data
If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes. If you are subscribed and we do this, however, it will also delete your subscription access.
Where we send your data
Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service. Your data is not ever sent to anyone else or sold to another party. (Ever.)
Your contact information
If you subscribe to our homeschool lessons, your contact information is stored through our email service provider and membership service provider. This information is kept private and is not used to spam or will never be sold to another company or person. Your contact information will be used only for updates on my content, lesson plans, and subscription updates. You can request to see a report of information stored, unsubscribe, or have your information removed at any time.
