The frog life cycle is one of the most incredible mtamorphoses of the anuimal kingdom. If your child has never seen it before, watch this beautiful video that shows you each stage of the metamorphosis. Next, solidify the lesson with this simple thumbprint craft.
What you need:
- paper plate
- green paint
- thin green and black markers or pens
What to do:
Start by having your child make four thumbprints on the paper plate with green paint.

Once the paint dries, add frog, tadpole, tadpole with back legs, froglet, and eggs. Encourage your child to label each phase, or you can scribe for them.

Once your craft is complete, review the stages with your child.
Add a phonics lesson by working with words like frog and legs and asking your child what sounds they hear when you say them. For example you can say, “What sound do you hear at the beginning in the word ‘FRog’?” What sound do you hear at the end of the word “froG”? Use your movable alphabet or letter rocks to build the words.
