Here’s what you need for all four weeks of our Level 3 Ancient Egypt unit study. Note: We break down our supply list by so you can choose what you need based on which lessons you plan to do with your child.
Week 1:

- The Horrible Histories Collection: Awesome Egyptians Fabulous Pharaohs (read it online or you can print to read)

Nile river model:
- 2 cups flour
- 1 cup of salt
- 1 cup of water
- 1 tbsp oil
- paint
- medium cardboard box
- faux or real greenery (optional)
- paper + access to a printer (don’t have one? we like this model)

Shaduf model:
We provide three versions of this project for inspiration, but you can use whatever you have on hand to build your shaduf. Before gathering any supplies, review the three options in Lesson 3 to determine which one you will build and which supplies you need.

Memory game:
- paper + access to a printer (don’t have one? we like this model)
- paper cutter (optional)
- laminator + laminator sheets (optional, but useful for repeating lessons)
Tomb diorama:
- shoe box
- brown construction paper for decorating the walls (or you could do an internet search and print out pictures of hieroglyphics for the walls—students might enjoy using the Ancient Egypt Drawing Book for inspiration!)
- colored pencils
- playdough or modeling clay (to make tables and jars)
- gold spray paint (may be cheaper at a local craft store)
- hot glue or craft glue
- tape
- sarcophagus template
Anise cookies:

Build a pyramid activity:
Or, if you already have them, you can use:

Mummified apple experiment:
- 10 apple slices
- gauze
- baking soda
- salt
- sugar
- vinegar
- 10 plastic cups + plastic cling wrap (or small jars with lids)
- printer + paper
Mummified doll activity:
- Barbie doll (or similarly sized plastic doll)
- 1 cup flour
- 4 cups water
- 1 cup liquid glue
- gauze or white cloth
Flatbread recipe:
- 2 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
- 1/2 tbsp active dry yeast
- 2 tsp sugar
- 1/2 tbsp salt
- 1/2 tbsp oil
- 1/4 cup cracked wheat bran
- 1 1/4 cup warm water
- index cards
- cooking scale
- fraction circles

Build a model Egyptian home:
- modeling clay
- cardboard
Hot air, cold air experiment:
- 2 plastic or glass containers
- ice
- balloon
- 2L plastic soda bottle
DIY bowling game:
- 10 toilet paper tubes (or 5 paper towel tubes cut in half)
- white contact paper (optional, you could also paint white if desired)
- red masking tape (or you could use red markers)
- small plastic or rubber ball
Basbousa recipe:
- 2 cups semolina flour
- 1 cup dried coconut
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 3/4 cup butter
- 1 cup milk
- 1 1/2 cup sugar or honey
- 2 tbsp lemon juice
- fraction circles manipulative
Archaeologist dig:
- large tub or kiddie pool (alternatively, you could prepare your dig in the ground if you have the space)
- dirt
- terracotta pot (these are expensive online but can be purchased cheaply at a hardware or garden store)
- permanent markers
- spoons, shovels, paint brushes
- painter’s or masking tape
- sticky notes
- hot glue gun + glue (you can use regular glue, but it will take longer to dry)
