Japan Unit: Kimono dolls tutorial

The kimono is one of the most famous symbols of Japanese culture. Use this simple tutorial to create miniature kimonos for craft stick “dolls” as part of our Japan Unit.

What you need:
What to do:

Step 1: Start by drawing faces on your sticks. Remember, kimonos can be worn by men or women, so you can draw both!

Step 2: Take one square of fabric and fold the top corner down. Lay your stick doll on top.

Step 3: Put a thin line of glue down the middle of the stick and fold the right corner of the fabric square over the stick. Repeat on the opposite side.

Step 4: Repeat step three, creating a snugger fit with the kimono.

Step 5: Cut a thin rectangle of fabric in a complementary or contrasting color for the belt. Wrap it around the doll, gluing in the back.
